Personal Interests

I have two adult sons whom I am very proud of, and a rich social life with friends and extended family.  Having a variety of interests helps bring perspective to my research and to everything else I do.

Reading

Excellent books that I have read recenly include:

  • Think Like a Freak by Steven D. Levitt, Stephen J. Dubner

  • When Bad Things Happen to Good People by Harold S. Kushner

  • The Martian by Andy Weir

Big Brothers Big Sisters of America

Big Brothers Big Sisters seeks to change the lives of children facing adversity for the better, forever.  Volunteers help children achieve success in school, help them avoid risky behaviors such as getting into fights and trying drugs and alcohol, and help them improve their self-confidence.

ESUUC

I am a member and serve as Finance Committee chairperson at the East Suburban Unitarian Universalist Church (ESUUC).  ESUUC is very active in the community and in addressing important social justice issues of local and global interests.  We sponsor and support the African Rural Schools Foundation (ARSF) which runs a school for children in Uganda.

African Rural Schools Foundation (ARSF)

The Mission of ARSF-USA is to upgrade the quality of literacy, economy, health and well-being of the New ABC Divine Foundation Primary School in Mutundwe, Uganda.
